Luke is 3 weeks old..

Luke had his 3 week old appointment.  It was a stressful one..he was circumcised and had his tongue clipped.  Everything worked out great and he is doing well.  He weighs 6lbs!!  Can you believe that??  Luke gained 1 pound 3 ounces in one week.  The doctor said "Keep feeding him and doing what you are doing."  She said that last time, it was pretty funny.  Since he is doing so well we don't have to go back into the doctor for a month.  YEAH!!

Luke's Jaundice Hospital Visit..

I am not sure if I talked about this event that happened the day after we got to come home from the hospital. We went in for Luke's 4 day check up appointment, it was definately not what I was expecting. The doctor told us that his Jaundice had doubled overnight so we needed to go up to the hospital immediately. I started crying in the office (I am sure the doctor thought I was crazy) because we had just gotten home from there and I didn't want to go back. I hadn't slept in days and I was dealing with the after birth stuff along with my milk coming in and that does not feel so great (especially when I hadn't pumped in atleast 24 hours because we left a little piece to my pump at the hospital). We left the doctor's office immediately, I called my mom to let her know that we were on our way back up there. I cried for about 3 hours straight. The nurses were very nice and were taking care of us. My mom then met us there and hung out with me while Randy went to back up our stuff (luckily I hadn't gotten to the unpacking part). It was very stressful to me because we had to figure out the nursing thing in the hospital when I was given a time limit of one hour to have him changed, fed then back under the lights. I know that Jaundice was very common but I couldn't handle the part where we had to go back in the hospital after they let us go home. I wish they would have just kept me there for 3 more days. I had already been there for 2 weeks what was another 3 days...??

Here is Luke under the lights!

Luke is sunbathing under those warm lights. He slept very well but twitched a lot. I love how he is just hanging out and loving life.

Don't I look amazing?? This is taken right after I had been crying for those 3 hours... Luke was happy eating the bottle. I think him being under those lights made his hair more blonde and stick up all over his head.
Doesn't Luke look stylish??
We were only in the hospital from Friday to Sunday, so it wasn't too bad. I am glad that everything worked out and we didn't have to stay longer. His jaundice had cut in half by that monday so we definately did something right!!

Bath Time!!

It's bath time for Luke! He loves it. He will cry when I wash his legs and feet but as soon as we go to the head he is in heaven.

When I use this little brush on his head he is so calm and content.

Then I put his head under the faucet and the cute kid practically falls asleep:)

Almost done and it's time to eat!!!

All fresh and clean little boy...

Luke is 2 weeks old today!!

Luke had his 2 week appointment yesterday. The appointment went very well!! Luke gained 8 ounces in 6 days. The doctor was so shocked! She had told us last week that he needed to gain at least 3 ounces, well I'd say that we killed that goal. Luke is 19 inches long (he was 17 1/2 when he was born). He is eating so well (obviously)!! We are getting better each day with the breast feeding. I never realized how hard it could be. But I am very glad that I am able to do it. Luke is also starting to realize when he is hungry. We are feeding him every 2-3 hours depending on when he is ready. If he hasn't shown any interest by 2 1/2 hours then I wake him up. He is going 4 hours in the night without eating. It's so nice to get that extra hour of sleep! Luke is also becoming more alert when you talk to him. I am happy that he is doing so well and thankful to all of your prayers. We couldn't have done it without them.

Sadie and Luke hanging out together. Sadie still isn't too sure about him.

Look how tiny Luke's hands are

Luke is here...

Our beautiful baby boy is here!! We named him Lucas Scott Bates. He weighed 4lbs 8oz and is 17 1/2 inches long. He is doing very well, he didn't have to go in the NICU!! There was so many people in the delivery room to make sure that he was okay. I went to the delivery room at 7:30 am on January 27th. I laid there waiting for Randy and the nurses to get there for a few minutes just thinking about what was going to happen. My biggest fear has always been giving birth. Well I achieved it!! It wasn't as bad as I thought it could be. The doctor showed up around 9 and told me that I was dilated to a 6 and they would start the medicine to get the process rolling. She did break my water all the way (what a crazy feeling)!! I was feeling contractions getting heavier and closer together. The nurse ordered for the epideral but the guy that does it got stuck in the other room with a different patient. So I was feeling everything!!!! finally he got there and I sat up so I could lean over the bed and have him put that wonderful needle in my back, well I thought I was going to faint and throw up. Worst feeling ever! I didn't feel the epideral because I was so focused on my contractions and feeling horrible. After that was done the nurse checked me and I was dilated to a 10!! Oh my gosh that went by so fast. I called Randy to get his cute little butt back in the room along with my mom and Hannah. They called Jared to get to the hospital also.
The nurse told me I couldn't laugh, cough or move because that baby would pop out. I waited and waited (also slept for a bit) for my doctor, she was in another surgery. Julia finally got there and said to me "Wow Brittnee why did you go so fast, you weren't supposed too!" Everyone made it back into the room and the baby was born. That's how fast it went! LITERALLY!! I had him at 11:26 am and was back to my other room by 1.
I don't have pictures right now because we need to download them but I just wanted to let everyone know that we are doing well. We did have to go back in to the hospital on friday because of his Jaundice, lets hope we don't have to go back. Luke has his doctor appt tomorrow so we will find out everything.
Thanks for all the phone calls, text messages, gifts, comments and etc. We love each one of you and thank you again for keeping us in your prayers. Please keep us in them because we still have a long road ahead of us!!
